Academic Activities
Every year the
Chinese Mathematical Society organizes varieties of conferences, workshops and
seminars, which attract numerous participants and provide stages for
mathematical researchers to conduct academic exchanges.
The year 1985 witnessed
the first commemorative activity of the Chinese Mathematical Society ever since
its set up, when the 50th anniversary
conference of Chinese Mathematical Society was held in December in Shanghai. ZHOU Peiyuan and ZHOU Guangzhao
presented the conference and gave speeches. CHERN Shiing-shen
delivered a conference lecture. As representatives of ten mathematical
societies, fifteen foreign mathematicians including H. Cartan
were invited to attend the conference. Ten years later, in May of 1995, the
Chinese Mathematical Society held “The 7th General Assembly of CMS
and its 60th Anniversary Conference” in Beijing. ZHU Guangya
and LU Yongxiang presented. CHERN Shiing-shen
and YAU Shing-tung delivered conference speeches.
The year 2005
marks the 70th anniversary of the Chinese Mathematical Society and
the celebrating conference with the theme “Mathematics 2005:;
Opportunity and Challenge” was held in Weihai, Shandong
in July 25-29. More than 400 mathematicians from China and abroad attended the
conferences including John M. BALL, the president of International
Mathematical Union. Nine plenary talks were given by nine world wide famous
mathematicians including Noga Alon, Martin Groetschel, Efim I Zelmanov, John Ball,
Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, Nick KATZ, YAU Shing-tung, SIU Yum-Tong, and TIAN Gang.
