The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students and is held annually in different countries. The first IMO was held in 1959 in Romania and 46 sessions in total were held until 2005. Chinese students from mainland China have been awarded 113 medals since the first Chinese team took part in the IMO in 1985. Among those medals, there were 86 Gold medals, 22 Silver medals and 5 Bronze medals. At the same time the Chinese team has won the champion of IMO 12 times out of 19 times of participation.
